When a little birdie told a bogey he was an eagle, the bogey got a fright and didn’t stop running for months. Get over golfing garbles with today’s Groupon: £19 for an 18 hole round of golf for two, with a cup of tea or coffee on arrival and lunch afterwards at Forest Hills Golf Club.

With verdant swathes of undulating parkland unrolling into the Forest of Dean, the family-owned Forest Hills Golf Course offers a unique golfing experience. The views over the old market town of Coleford and out to the Welsh hills beyond provide golfers with a picturesque backdrop as they swing, tap and swipe their way around 18 challenging holes. The course is well-drained, so the tees are fit for play year-round. After the game, golfers with wind-swept red cheeks can retire to the Clubhouse where they will find sturdy bar food and a range of drinks.

With the smell of the autumn soil in the air and a warm cup of tea or coffee in their hands, players can check wind speed and weather as they decide on a game plan for their 18 hole round (£28). Having completed their leisurely work on the fairway, golfers can dunk chunks of bread roll into steaming bowls of the clubhouse's winter warmer soup while they discuss the day's highlights.

Reviews

To me the course held its challenges and I was rewarded with some breathtaking views while playing. Golfers are encouraged to ring the bar on reaching the ninth tee so that a piping hot bacon roll ready for you at the clubhouse. Drinks and food are reasonably priced and as stated there is a very friendly warmth here.

What a find! Tucked away in the Forest of Dean, close to the Welsh border is a great course in wonderful condition. The pro-shop staff were accomodating and despite the recent heavy rain the course was very playable. There are a few hills on the course. Delicious food in the clubhouse as well, I shall come back!
