Learning how to cook is a vital life skill, but all too often the rewards get nibbled up before the cherry's on the top. Have your cake and eat it too with today's Groupon: for £25.50 instead of £63.40 a couple get a two course meal combined with a cookery class at Arbutus Restaurant.
In partnership with Culmore Organic farm, Head Chef and owner Barry Dallat of Arbutus Restaurant harnesses the fruits and flavours of the Bann valley to cook up a storm while standing on his head. The result is a miniscule carbon footprint and an impressively acrobatic chopping action, all within kitchens at the charming and ambient Arbutus restaurant, set over two storeys in a Kilrea town house. The local produce has brought diners and awards from far afield, and Barry offers master class cookery classes to unlock the secrets of the ingredients.
Today's edifying Groupon will combine a sumptuous à la carte meal for two with a culinary coaching class from Barry. Selecting a starter from the menu, such as smoked duck served with sweet tomato and red onion chutney (£4.95), or garlic bread served with chorizo, basil and shallot, mature cheddar (£3.95), the main course will involve a little more hands on action. Under Barry's supervision the tables will turn as diners take to the stoves, learning how to perfect their selected main dish. With one head chef between two pairs of hands voucher holders will have almost undivided attention, giving participants a chance to enjoy their wine or soft drink, and ultimately helping the ingredients on their short journey from a few miles away to the plate.
