A desire to sea life drives many teenage lobsters to take gap years that often have regrettable consequences like getting a tattoo or ending up in a Thai prawn curry. Keep a stern eye on marine youngsters with today's Groupon: a choice of lunchtime platter each for two people plus a glass of wine at Jeffers by the Marina.

Having won the Best Service Award at the British Restaurant Awards, this chic fish venue is serving up homely food and fresh specials in classy quarters on the marina. The odd kitsch model fish suspended from the walls is a witty touch in a dining room decked out in cool aqua hues and fitted with elegant granite-topped tables. Calling itself a seafood bar and bistro, Jeffers boasts a menu of hearty and traditional seafood bites like scallops, hake and monkfish cooked in transcontinental style: curry, risotto and chorizo sausage all feature in innovative savoury arrangements, with chips and aioli summing up the sophisticated modern twist on harbour food that gives Jeffers its distinctive flavour.
Groupon mariners can pair up for a lunchtime catch with a platter each of their choice laden with either fresh seafood or a zesty selection of meat and cheese (£12.50 per platter). Keep afloat with a glass of wine (£5.25 each) in the stylish surrounds of this popular Bangor restaurant.
Several fans of the restaurant wrote in detail about how they enjoyed the overall dining experience. A Yelp user had a particularly good evening from beginning to start.
The cooking is innovative but not over the top and the service was friendly but not in your face

Although this small restaurant can be very busy at times, especially Friday and Saturday nights, the remainder of the week provides a comfortable, friendly and welcoming venue for a high quality meal. The menu varies frequently and daily 'specials' are generally offered. Presentation of the food is superb, as is the food itself.
