Staging horse races since 1685, Downpatrick Racecourse has witnessed over 300 years of ground galloping triumphs, situated a brisk trot away from the historic town centre. With turf trampled by many top National Hunt heroes including Rhyme 'n' Reason and Sparky Gayle, the course has also hosted the royal hooves of the Queen Mother’s Laffy. The new function suite, with a backdrop of the Mourne Mountains, is the latest edition to the venue’s grandstand, and there is also a strong supporters' club.
Stallion spectators can enjoy the ‘Walk The Line’ race meet on the 15 October 2011 with a complimentary racecard and pint. Guests can stroll in at midday and watch horses race around the one and a quarter mile course when the first race charges off at 2.05pm.
