About the Tours
The Belfast Blitz Tour explores the night that 200 German Luftwaffe bombers dropped their cargo on the city, unearthing scars that can be seen in the streets to this day and putting common misconceptions to rest. The Darker Side of Old Belfast Tour takes guests through the cobbled streets of the Victorian red light district, exposing the notorious residents and ghostly goings that have riddled the streets for years.

About Tours of Belfast

Experts in the capital’s history, Joe Baker and Michael Liggett have been conducting tours through the nooks and secret crannies of Belfast for over 20 years. The pair have produced hundreds of publications on the city’s history, and have graced the pages of some of the biggest newspapers. Tours range from dark and gritty urban settings to stunning scenery with Giant’s Causeway day tours and the comprehensive sightseeing tours which explore legendary locations.

Tour Highlights

The Darker Side of Belfast
Victorian red light district:
Learn about the former resident of these debauched streets including the grave robbers who operated in the nearby Clifton Street Cemetery and terrible tragedies which led to a few of Belfast's most famous ghost stories.

Belfast Castle:
Stand on the site of the original Belfast Castle, burned down with courtesans inside, and the site of many a grizzly execution.

The Belfast Blitz
St George's Market:
This Victorian covered market was an emergency mortuary during the war and saw its fair share of casualties with over 250 bodies brought to it.

Falls Road:
The swimming baths on this legendary road were drained after the blitz, allowing for rows of bodies to be identified before burial in the city cemetery.

Reviews

While not widely reviewed at present, Tours of Belfast has attracted a favourable review from Culture Northern Ireland.

The Darker Side of Old Belfast is a hugely enjoyable two and a half hours, delivered with trademark blacker-than-black Ulster humour by the endlessly knowledgeable [tour guides]. It’s not a ghost tour, more a macabre history lesson, though the guides do throw in a few supernatural titbits.
