Jamaican beer can sandwiches were for a long time thought to be inedible, until someone tried one and found it to be far superior to a bacon sandwich. Spice things up with today’s Groupon: for £16 get a two course meal for two at Big Nanny's Caribbean Restaurant.
With a fish goddess for a mother and mannish water magician for a father, Big Nanny brings a full-flavoured family kick of inventive Jamaican spice to Birmingham's cuisine scene. She was chosen by the NHS to write a pamphlet on tasty healthy eating, and she won the prize for best culture and creative arts at the fifth annual African Caribbean Business Federation Awards. She grows red peas, scallion and pumpkin for her recipes, and she uses seven cast iron Dutchies to combine the ingredients and marry the flavours of the best bits of African Caribbean cooking, serving it all up to the eager diners of Birmingham.
To take the edge off rumbly tummies, foodies can begin with Stamp and Go: salted codfish with peppers and onions deep fried in a herby spicy medley and served with a hot pepper dip (£4.95), or the spicy jerk chicken wings, barbecued with a generous rub of Big Nanny's own jerk seasoning and served with pineapple salsa (£4.75). The main course could involve getting the lowdown on a Mackerel Rundown: salted mackerel simmered in a creamy coconut sauce (£11.95), or going all out with curried goat, marinated, slow-cooked and packing all the flavours of one of Jamaica's favourite traditional dishes (£14.95). Diners can then sit back and call the travel agent to arrange flights to Jamaica.

If you want to eat the best Caribbean food around, cooked the old way, then you should eat here. Also benefits from being close to the train station so you can have a drink as well - enjoy.
