Before the invention of skiing, the only way to get down from snow covered peaks was to hitch a lift from mountain farmers who were ploughing the slopes. Sow some snow skills with today’s Groupon: £39 for a beginner ski package with group lesson and two open practice sessions plus equipment hire at Telford Snowboard and Ski Centre.
Bringing a touch of Whistler and Chamonix to Telford, this ski centre boasts an all-weather 85 metre ski slope, a nursery slope for beginners, and a welcoming ski lodge. Offering courses for all abilities, the expert instructors prepare budding snow bunnies for edging and carving on the big slopes. Starting at 9.30am, students will first be fitted out in skis and boots before the expert instructors introduce themselves and give an overview of the course, equipment, and ski slope. Ploughing on they will get limber with a warm-up, which probably won’t involve a snowball fight. Beginner techniques such as the snow plough and wedge turning will then be demonstrated to help skiiers get to grips with the fundamentals of the sport. Through practice and some fine tuning, budding powder kings and queens should master the basics needed to come down green and blue slopes with ease. Students will also get two more open practice sessions at the ski centre to help nail the moves and enjoy some real carving.
