The Hotel
The restaurant and breakfast room at this hotel boast views over the boxy top of Thorpe Cloud, and the kitchen offers a menu of British classics with a focus on the provenance of each ingredient. With fishing rights on the Staffordshire bank of the River Dove, guest can let fly on one of the most populous trout streams in the country before retiring to plush rooms and long hot soaks in deep baths.

Drive out to Bakewell to explore the town's architecture and seek out the eponymous tart, or head to Ilam to take the Paradise Walk through a little of the Derbyshire countryside.
