About the event
Having watched the sport change from culottes and argyle to Lycra and snazzy trainers, the organisers behind All England Badminton have been serving up nail-biting tournament events since 1899. The All England Open Badminton Championship now carries over six days and a panoply of rounds, covering singles, doubles, mixed games, and the occasional shuttlecock shuffle. Sponsored by Yonex since 1984, the rallying sprawls across the urban playground of NIA, Birmingham, and as the event is part of the OSIM BWF World Superseries Premier, games will feature some of the world’s best badminton movers and shakers. In addition, this year spectators will be simultaneously witnessing qualifying heats for the upcoming Olympic extravaganza down south in the capital.
The National Indoor Arena is a 21st century palace of entertainment, sport, and hot dog stands. Within Birmingham’s teeming centre and perched atop the canal, the centre is heaving with drinking and munching opportunities, and convenience is made a priority with plentiful parking and a whole host of health and safety protocols.
