The key to a successful retreat is the perfect location, a completely clear mind, and managing to avoid any particularly thorny rose bushes. Back into comfort with today’s Groupon: £79 for a two night stay for two with breakfast at The White Horse Inn.

Mentioned in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, this historic coaching inn still retains its rustic charms with a log fire and low-beamed ceilings. Jazz suppers and Sunday roasts are regular occasions in the restaurant, with locally sourced ingredients flavouring the dishes whenever possible. Surrounded by orchards and hop gardens, the Boughton-under-Blean inn sits in the heart of the English countryside, and 13 en suite rooms cosy guests with boutique lodging.

Settling down in Egyptian cotton bedding, guests can rest for two nights in slumber chambers decked out with modern amenities including Freeview television, plus free Wi-Fi accessible from most rooms. Waking each morning to a full English breakfast, visitors can also receive a complimentary dessert when dining in the restaurant, and upgrades to a superior room are available at £15 per night.

Reviews
The White Horse Inn is rated a lush 4.5/5 by well-rested TripAdvisors. Guests complimented the level of service they were treated to, their hearty dining experiences, and the inn’s proximity to Canterbury.
The food was excellent - hearty breakfasts and on one night a lovely two course dinner with wine with great choice of food. Our (upgraded) room was light and airy and suprisingly quiet as the hotel was full, having egyptian cotton sheets and a very comfortable bed.

The breakfast on both days was good. Fresh juices, coffee and cereals were available to help yourselves to, followed by either a full breakfast or croissants. The full breakfast was made with local produce and was excellent.
