With swirling custard plunging down onto banks of bread and butter pudding, a trip to a majestic Dessert Gorge can be a sickly-sweet delight. Go for a less gluttonous gorge with today's Groupon: £5.40 for a family day pass to the National Trust’s Aberdulais Tin Works and Waterfall.
Set amid the roaring waters of the River Dulais, which have powered industries since 1584, the Aberdulais falls are now the home of Europe's largest electricity-generating waterwheel. Before it powered the National Trust property, the site was a prosperous tin works, as well as being a favourite spot for travelling artists and writers, including JMW Turner.
Having snack-packed the satchels for a fun-packed day, visitors can set off to explore the little wooded gorge before standing beside the hypnotic rush of the falls. After visiting the tin exhibition and watching the waterwheel in action, perhaps spotting some leaping stickleback, or dippers fluttering above, visitors might want to tuck into a slice of National Trust lemon drizzle cake, before exploring the picturesque Neath area.
Reviews
Aberdulais Falls has proved to be an informative and enjoyable day out for all reviewers, who have praised the upkeep of the historic site. Users on TripAdvisorawarded the site a scenic 4/5 stars.
There were birds everywhere and it was hard to believe that this site was once an industrial tinworks. The restoration of the site is amazing and still ongoing. The pictures of before and after are incredible. So much work has been done to preserve this important piece of history.

The National Trust staff were welcoming, friendly and informative. The information at the various locations was just right and presented in an interesting way - good to see it bilingual. The amenities were clean and well looked after and tea room was spot on as it is in all National Trust locations.
