Surging steam, pumping pistons, and idyllic rural scenery are recreated on the West Somerset Railway, which brings the charms of yesteryear to the 21st century. An authentic branch of the old Great Western Railway, this track includes displays of industrial heritage and evocative locomotives. Untainted farms and villages ease riders into tranquillity, as trains gently roll among hills and smoke billows.
Sight-seers can climb aboard the trains in pairs or with their family, letting children rattle and chug along with the sixty year old engines. Railway enterprisers can expect to cover twenty miles of unhasty terrain, stopping off at ten stations along the way. Embarking on a return journey from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead, passengers can enjoy the ambling journey seven days a week.

Reviews
West Somerset Railway earns a highly favourable 4.5/5 stars from TripAdvisors, and a full 5/5 from Qypers. Reviewers praise the historic trains, picturesque route and helpful staff.
A trip on the West Somerset Railway is a must if you are in West Somerset. The scenery is lovely with the line passing through the Quantocks before running alongside the sea toward Minehead. Great old steam engines polished to perfection. Wayside stations with Stogumber and Crowcombe Heathfield well worth stopping off at for a cup of tea and homemade cake. The bread pudding at Crowcombe is particularly good. Very friendly staff make you feel welcome.
