Voted CAMRA’S Retail outlet of the Year in 2010, West Country Ales plays hide-and-seek with itself in Somerset’s sumptuous Cheddar Gorge. Possessing a list of breweries as long as the Devon, Dorset and Cornwall coast, they bring together ales from all across the region, whether from Land’s End or Stonehenge. Also stocking ciders, wines and spirits from the area, they offer customers a complete quaffing experience.

Ale admirers and cider connoisseurs alike can sample a selection of the West Country’s best brews, tasting five different styles during the 90-minute session. Whether pale, ruby, or stout, each taster will be accompanied by a short talk, describing the history, character and flavour of both brewery and beer. Sandwich-shaped delights will be on hand to quell any hunger pangs and keep tummies happy and each attendee will be able to bring home a bottle of their very own personalised beer or cider.

West Country Ales received National Retailer of the Year at the CAMRA Awards 2010, while Qypers award Cheddar Gorge a fine 4/5 stars and comment on the picturesque surroundings and calm atmosphere.

The gorge is stunning and I’ve had wonderful days walking here and having picnics, taking in the sun from the top and having close encounters with the wildlife ...
