The Stroke Association provides vital support for people who have been affected by stroke, one of the biggest causes of disability for adults in the UK. May 2012 saw the launch of the UK’s first Action on Stroke Month. The focus of this campaign is to highlight the everyday difficulties that stroke survivors and their families face and what needs to change to ensure stroke survivors are supported to make their best possible recovery.

With today's Groupon donations can be made to help the association perform their important work and improve the lives of people across the UK.

Choose from the following donation options:

£5 for an art therapy session for a stroke survivor
Art therapy is a proven way of building confidence in stroke survivors, allowing them to express themselves and enjoy both mental and physical exercise

• £15 for a blood pressure testing kit for a stroke survivor
To help ensure stroke survivors are at less risk of further strokes
It’s been estimated that up to 40% of strokes could be prevented by management of blood pressure

• £22.75 for a set of communication picture cards for a stroke survivor
Strokes leave many survivors unable to talk. Communication picture cards are a vital tool for stroke survivors as they try to attempt to communicate with loved ones, friends, and the outside world. Sets of cards cover different topics such as food, the home, transport, animals and possessions

• £50 to modify a stroke survivor's home with guard rails
Help enable a stroke survivor to modify their home by adding guard rails, so they can move around easily from room to room

• £260 to fund one day of a stroke research project
Strokes are the third biggest killer in the UK and research can help save lives and prevent strokes. Stroke Association researchers are pushing the boundaries and producing groundbreaking results for the world of stroke that will save and improve lives for years to come

More About The Stroke Association
Having to adapt to the consequences of a stroke can be extremely challenging. While the physical disabilities are often painfully obvious, it is less easy to measure and combat the impact on emotional wellbeing, confidence and freedom of expression. Around one million people across the UK stand to benefit from the work of the Stroke Association, which includes everything from therapy sessions that aid expression and movement, to assistance with household bills, as well as campaigning to raise awareness more generally across the UK. This final point forms an essential part of their work, because despite them claiming the lives of more women than breast cancer, only 62% of people in the UK know what a stroke is. The Stroke Association's information campaigns are designed not only to improve public awareness, but also to provide essential material to sufferers of the condition and their families, in order for them to have the best possible quality of life after a stroke.

The G-Team

Because Groupon is all about finding new ways to get together and enjoy life, G-Team want to introduce the members of the Groupon community to different communities across the UK. Based on the power of group action, Groupon believes that collective resources can help people to cope with illness and provide much needed support.

How it works

1. Buy your gift for The Stroke Association
2. We email you the Groupon immediately.
3. Click on the link in the voucher and enter your Gift Aid details. If you are a UK taxpayer, the value of your gift can be increased by 25% under the Gift Aid scheme at no extra cost to you. This means a donation of £5 could be worth an extra £1.25 to The Stroke Association
4. Your donation goes where it’s most needed. Each time you buy a gift you’ll be contributing to The Stroke Association’s vital work, with each gift covering a theme. When you buy a gift, your money will contribute to projects related to the gift theme. For example, if you buy a blood pressure testing kit, this falls in the equipment category. Therefore the money will always be spent on The Stroke Association's equipment programmes but not always on that specific item.
