Although birds are measured according to wing-span, trying to look at a tape measure while hang gliding tends to skew the results. Get a more grounded perspective with today's Groupon: £30 for a three-hour falconry and archery experience at Birds of Prey Centre.

This falconry centre is home to over 300 birds, sending forth a broad swoop that includes hawks, vultures, and falcons. The experience days and educational tours on offer allow visitors to come face to face with the yellow-eyed shock of a long-eared owl, or the twisting grace of a red kite's forked tail. The Shuttleworth centre also has a fully trained brood of hunting birds and a clatter-clapping clay pigeon machine for the entertainment of less airborne huntsmen.

The three-hour experience will begin with tea or coffee and a meet-and-greet session with one of the falconers. Visitors will then get the opportunity to handle the hawks, falcons, owls, and eagles, feeling the taut power of a range of birds of prey. Birdwatchers will then turn up the tempo by jumping in growling 4x4s and heading over to a target range for a 90-minute archery experience under the eagle-eyed supervision of a seasoned pro.
