Without bushcraft skills, humans would never have been able to trek through forestry or step up the social hierarchy with their superior boar-shaped hedges. Go hog wild with today’s Groupon: £34 for a full day 'woodland explorer' bushcraft introductory survival course at Wild Spirit Bushcraft.
Conducting bushcraft courses and survival training in 70 acres of untouched woodland, Wild Spirit Bushcraft whisks nature lovers off through the thorns and thicket of a nature reserve to learn the intricacies of suriving in the great outdoors. Endurance classes for individuals, corporate teams or families born to be wild all operate in Merthyr Mawr Estate in Bridgend, just off the blustery coast of South Wales. While these options can be tailored, budding woodsmen and women can blossom just as well with prêt-à-porter experiences such as falconry days, wicker basketry making, wild food foraging, tipi nights and expeditions to Scandinavia.
Running from 10am to 4pm, the ‘Woodland Explorer’ course has been designed to provide a full day of fun-filled foraging, jogging through the essential skills of woodland survival. Temporary dwellers of the natural world can acquire skills in friction fire lighting, autumn shelter building and backwoods cookery, whilst green-horns can be sharpened with lessons in wood carving, food foraging and cordage/nettle skills. The full benefits of being in the great outdoors can also be reaped with safety instructions on how to set up a hammock and tarp, well-being and hygiene, the careful use of cutting tools and how to find water.

Although not widely reviewed at present, Wild Spirit Bushcraft has attracted some very positive write-ups from visitors who appreciated their adventurous courses. In addition, the company currently has over 300 Likes on Facebook.
I think this one of my favourite places in the area. Went for a very alternative hen party where we got to stay in a Tipi and learn lots of bush crafts like foraging in the woods and building a campfire and getting it going. Probably doesn't sound like everyone(‘s) ideal Hen party but it was so much fun, mainly because the staff were [sic] so into what they do and making it a fun experience for us girls. I've recommended it to a lot of people now, I think it would be a great family day out and they have so much to offer, like Falconry or hunting. It’s only 30 minutes away from Cardiff so it’s easy to get to and yet you feel like you’re out in the wilderness when you’re there.
