While clotted cream tastes great with jam, culotte-d cream tastes even better with a stylish afternoon tea shirt. Relish in a good combination with today’s Groupon: £15 for afternoon tea with Prosecco for two from Mad Hatters @ The Gate Café.
Getting tea time down to a tee, Mad Hatters have been pleasing a nation of slurpers for over a decade, evolving from a one kettle establishment into a bustling, kooky café. The building has been standing tall since the late 19th century and has been magically transformed into a crazy world of sofas, chesterfields, and dark mahogany tables. With no job too small, big, or zany the dedicated team of staff go all out on buffets and sandwich rounds as well as catering for weddings and children’s parties.
Sipping on a glass of Prosecco, mad as a hatter guests can tuck into the crazy spread of goodies including a selection of tiny finger sandwiches. Scones are slathered in jam and cream and petit fours are on-hand to ensure that the sweet toothed get their fill. Keeping things traditional but laced through and through with fun, a variety of teas including herbal, green and rooibos are served up in strangely shaped mugs that fit in with the Alice in Wonderland theme.
Mad Hatters Cafe is rated a cute and quirky 3.5/5 stars by Yelpers. Reviewers enjoyed the atmosphere, tasty foods and friendly service; however some noted that the cafe can feel a bit too small and busy.
Mad Hatter's gets by on good food, good prices and good service.

There is no feeling of pretension here, as can happen sometimes in 'quirky' places. Instead, there is just a lovely relaxed, almost family-like atmosphere. My only point is that you just HAVE to get there before the lunch time rush because there is hardly any seating.
