Before recipe books people would laver bread with sponge cake in an attempt to make bubbles and squeak. Leave taste-budding creativity to the professionals with today’s Groupon: £23 for a two course Italian meal for two with Prosecco at Mediterraneo.
Serving up the finest local Welsh produce with specialist ingredients and Italian cooking finesse, the team at Mediterraneo creates flavour-infused dishes of fish, meat, and pasta fresh to order. The characterful restaurant stands resplendent with magnificent views of the Penarth coastline, an outdoor terrace, and a snug interior encased within an oldy-worldy boathouse. Master crafted cuisine is ushered out by staff passionate about food, highly trained to deliver a stellar service. Patrons can find the charming venue a 10 minute stroll from Penarth railway station.
While skilled chefs whip up culinary masterpieces, couples can choose two courses from main and desserts over a glass of Prosecco each (£4.95). Main affairs include Angello Mediterraneo, tender rump of Welsh lamb succulently laced in a sweet and spicy eastern Mediterranean sauce, crumbed in crisp laverbread (£18.95); or alternatively Spigola (£17.95), buttered sea bass poached in white wine, lemon, rosemary, and a kick of feisty green peppercorns. Sweet teeth can be satisfied with desserts such as homemade tiramisu, or delectable chocolate fudge cake (£4.95)
Reviews
Mediterraeno rates an encouraging 3/5 on TripAdvisor. Diners were pleased with the service and the restaurant’s hearty servings.
The food was cooked excellently, good wine, good service. Really enjoyed our evening.

The hint of mint in the peas complimented the delicious sweet scallops and the sharpness of the dressing cut through this perfectly. I then ordered an excellent paella which was rich and full to the brim with sea food, chicken and chorizo.
