It is well known that tailors don’t take well to teasing, as they’re always getting stitched up. Darn, don’t damn with today’s Groupon: £24 for a choice of sewing course at Venn School of Sewing.
Helping the thread through the eye of the needle, Venn teach their own school of sewing, craft, and design alongside their tailoring services. From modifying glad-rags, Venn School of Sewing offers classes ranging from fashion illustration to pattern cutting. Pinning its cushion close to Cardiff City Stadium and Ninian Park rail station, lessons start from the basics of sewing all the way through to advance alterations.
With four courses to choose from, students can stich six hours of learning with classes running on a Tuesday or Sunday. The ‘Sewing Machine for Beginners’ workshop will guide newbies through the basics of using a sewing machine, with a sample of seams and hems to get to grips with, as well as an item to take home. A garment, such as a skirt or top, can be made to take home in the ‘Sewing Foundations’ workshop, and recyclable materials can create a piece in the ‘Up-Cycle’ craft class. Alternatively, home-wear can enjoy an addition in the ‘Roman Blinds’ workshop, where fancy window coverings can be concocted.
