Docked in Chester since 1741, The Ship Inn assumes lookout across the historic park and winding River Dee. A colourful procession of British dishes regularly appears from the kitchen, partnering up with local cask ales and visiting wines from around the world. On some lucky evenings, the warm, rustic bar area is filled with events including swinging live music and brain-racking quizzes. 
Pairs or foursomes can sit down for some afternoon tea with a twist, pouring a teapot of mojito or another classic cocktail into awaiting cups. Alternatively, things can be kept on the straight and narrow with a choice of tea, coffee, or soft drink per guest. A selection of freshly made food will accompany the drinks, with an assortment of sandwiches hugging bread around cucumber, home-cured honey and mustard-glazed ham, and local beef and horseradish. On the sweeter side, a buttermilk scone will sit happily beside a chocolate brownie, as well as a choice of home-made cakes.

The menu is varied and makes good use of high quality local produce. I had the honey roast ham sandwich which came deliciously dressed and was served with chips, the portion size was generous and all for less than £5. Good quality, family friendly and in a beautiful setting with views over the river. Definitely worth a visit.
