Statistics show there is a strong correlation between canoeing skills and popularity, with both leading to inflated egos and rapid success. Be oar-some with today's Groupon: £36 for a canoeing and trekking day with food from Wye Canoes.
Based in Symonds Yat West, Wye Canoes offer canoe and kayak hire, guiding and instruction as well as bunkhouse and B&B accommodation. Among the company's fleet of mighty vessels are modern Pyranha kayaks and Canadian canoes that will take up to three adults, or two adults and two small children. These buoyant beauties are available for half-day, full-day or longer trips through the gentling snaking bends and foaming rapids of the River Wye, which was voted the best river in England and Wales back in 2010.
Explore the picturesque Wye Valley with a day's canoeing and trekking. The day kicks off with a hearty breakfast of a bacon bap (veggie options also available) with tea or coffee at Ye Old Ferrie Inn, before the experienced guides lead paddlers through a safety briefing. Next up is a guided trip down the glorious River Wye, lasting three hours and covering seven miles taking in the famous view point of Yat Rock, a nesting site for Peregrine Falcons. After a quick bite to eat and a 30 minute map reading class at Symonds Yat, adventurers head into the lush forests to complete an orienteering challenge, visiting places such as King Arthur's Cave before heading back to Ye Old Ferrie Inn for a warming cup of mulled cider in front of a log fire.
While Wye Canoes has not yet attracted many reviews, a few customers commented positively on their experiences, praising the professional staff and fun excursions.
Wye Canoes organised us a wonderful trip which was tailor-made for all our needs from finding wonderful campsites to the best places to look for kingfishers. Thank you being so friendly and relaxed. Definately [sic] an excellent canoe company to go with.
