A museum, country park, and plenty of steam and diesel trains make up The Midland Railway Centre, an establishment that chugs out whispers of locomotive history from a standard gauge line. Engines depart from the little station, complete with model railway, and travel to Swanwick, a place filled with a wagon-load of activities and entertainment. The evocative trains then journey to Hammersmith, past a large stone embankment from the 1930s, then back to Butterly, on a circular track, so as not to repeat the past too much.
Families of up to two adults and three children can anticipate a day filled with track-based escapades, including as many rides on the steam or diesel passenger trains as the timetable allows. Entrance to the museum and demonstration signal box is also included, while less stationary exploits can be had with a wander round the country park or the Victorian church.
