Much like a nervy child at bedtime, bad jousters were frequently scared of the knight. See brave displays with today’s Groupon: £6.75 for entry for four people to the Easter event at Tutbury Castle on 8 or 9 April 2012.

About Tutbury Castle
First mentioned on parchment scribbles dating back to 1071, Tutbury Castle still stands, having witnessed an exciting history involving royal captives, decadent feasts, and Civil War sieges. The castle boasts an elegant tearoom, expansive grounds, and a time-tested great hall, and is believed to be haunted by the armour-clad keeper and other apparitions. As well as welcoming thousands of visitors each year, the castle is host to a number of excavation projects, with each scrape uncovering more of the site’s colourful and important past.
About the Event
Slowing steeds and coming to a halt inside the castle grounds, four history fans can enjoy entrance to the 14th century-themed Knights in Armour event. Each day will feature traditional costumes, an archery competition, educational demonstrations, and a traditional foot tournament in full period armour, after which gentlefolk, maidens, and mini-knights can fill bellies with hot food and perhaps partake of a beverage from the licensed bar available on-site.

Reviews

The castle offers stunning views and you can also look down onto Burton-Upon-Trent at all the factories and breweries around the town.

We went to Tutbury for their poltergeist and pies night on Halloween. The night was a lot of fun with history, ghost hunting and food and fun all thrown into a mix [sic].
