The Bull i’ th’ Thorn boasts a stunning setting in the middle of the Peak District, and invites visitors to tuck into two courses at lunchtime, maybe starting with garlic mushrooms and garlic bread, or the king prawns (both usually £3.95). For the main event, options include the stilton-topped Hartington chicken (usually £12.50) and poached sea bass with coriander Thai sauce (usually £11.50). Alternatively starters can be swapped for a dessert such as spotted dick, bread and butter pudding, or sticky toffee pudding (all usually £3.95).

What’s the history behind the inn?
Established in 1472, and thus welcoming guests for over 500 years, The Bull i’ th’ Thorn was a coaching inn for routes between Manchester and Derby. Today, the 17th-Century Tudor panelling and stone-flagged floor still remain.
What kind of food is served?
Traditional British classics such as shepherd’s pie and beef hot pot are available, as well as international dishes like chilli con carne and lasagne. Lighter fare is also on offer in the form of baguettes and jacket potatoes.
What about drinks?
As well as a wide range of fine wines and spirits, there is also an assortment of Robinsons, guest ales and continental lagers.
What are the guestrooms like?
The inn accommodates travellers in uniquely decorated en suite rooms, all of which contain a colour TV with tea and coffee facilities. Breakfast the next day is also available.

Reviews across both sources focus on accommodation, though on the whole reviewers were keen to compliment the standard of the food.
