Using traditional methods and wood-fired ovens, La Pietra engenders a classically-Italian food philosophy to bring modern pizazz to East London tables. The time-honoured Italian trifecta of pizza, pasta and bread is prepared from scratch every day using full grain ingredients, while special recipe sauces are brought to a simmer by the cultivated kitchen team. The Spitalfields eatery also boasts a delicatessen section, giving diners the chance to impress in their own kitchens.

To kick off culinary trinity, La Pietra's carpaccio di tonno (smoked tuna, mixed salad, and balsamic vinegar - £10.50) makes for a delicately-flavoured starter. Following up antipasti is the primi menu. Tagliatelle al nero con vongole veraci (squid ink tagliatelle, cherry tomatoes, and fresh clams -£12) and spaghetti al ragu (spaghetti in wild boar ragu - £8) both present tasty precursors to the main event. Final courses include the orate al forno (oven baked sea bream with cherry tomatos and olives - £17) and branzino alla griglia con asparagi caramellati (grilled sea bass with asparagus - £18.50).

Reviews

La Pietra was rated a tantalising 4.5/5 by TripAdvisors, as well as receiving very positive comments from Yelp and Qype reviewers. Diners praised the décor and service, though special mentions went to the authenticity and taste of the cuisine itself.

The food contains fresh market ingredients and it deserves its own respect. The location and atmosphere is also calm and pleasant especially when one wants to enjoy one's meal at a slower pace.

Food was fantastic and the staff really helpful in explaining each dish on the menu to ensure you got what you want and liked. Great decor really nice downstairs with ham and cheese hanging in a glass fronted store room and plenty of space between tables. Food is all made in the restaurant and breads and pizza cooked in a traditional brick oven.
