This grade A listed Georgian building, with four red stars from the AA glittering on its Grecian inspired façade, oozes elegance from its sumptuous stronghold amid 400 acres of parkland. The privately owned hospitality haven sits in the village of Markinch, equidistant from the hubs of St Andrews and Edinburgh, and comfortably snuggled amongst Scotland’s wild outdoors. The Orangery restaurant dishes out traditional meals created using locally sourced food wherever possible, and complimentary canapés entertain pre-dinner appetites while a glass roof allows for digestive stargazing.

Reviews

Balbirnie House Hotel has received widespread acclaim. 96% of LateRooms.com users would stay there again and recommended the hotel to a friend, while TripAdvisor reviewers awarded the hotel 4/5, and drew special attention to the surroundings, food, and friendly service.

The hotel is beautiful. The best thing is definitely the staff that work here, they really do go out their way to make the experience special and individually bespoke to each guest. It is clearly within the culture of the hotel that all staff are encouraged to act and deal with customers in such a manner. Very impressed by this. The rooms were lovely; they had a lot of character, were well appointed and very clean. The bed was especially comfortable.

The hotel and service exceeded expectations from start to finish. If anyone was teaching students in the hospitality trade how to treat their guests then they should use this hotel as an example of great practice. One of the loveliest and friendliest hotels I have had the pleasure to stay at.
