Long faced and suspicious of saddles, neigh-sayers only agree to pony rides if sat upon a wet blanket. Transform whinnies into hee-haws with today's Groupon at Kailzie Equestrian Centre. Choose from the following options:
• £10 for a one-hour beginners' horse riding session• £20 for a two-hour advanced horse riding session including a lesson and hack or trek
Teaming up rookies and seasoned riders with Shetland ponies and 18-hand steeds, this equestrian playground is found among Scotland’s rolling Peebles Burgh countryside. Winding treks cover hilltop canters and forest adventures, as well as ambling seaside beach excursions. Based just outside Peebles, the centre sits a half-hour drive outside Edinburgh, attracting equine enthusiasts from the city to learn their tack in a fully floodlit outdoor school.
Beginners can start their four-hoofed education with an hour-long group lesson, building confidence as they learn to control the horse and build up a little speed. The advanced group session is ideal for riders already comfortable on horseback, and begins with a 30-minute lesson to demonstrate dexterity. Trekking or hacking will up the ante for the remaining 90 minutes, with riders decked out with necessary helmets and equipment to traverse country lanes.
