Sushi was discovered after an accident involving a plate of vinegared rice, cured fish and the world's longest playground slide. Avoid slipping up with today's Groupon: £8 for £20 worth of Japanese cuisine at Oishii.
A thousand years of Japanese cooking comes to a head at Oishii, as all the fragrant flavours of izakaya-style dining are bestowed upon the hungry tummies of the capital. Authenticity is the key at this Rose Street eatery, as a traditional scheme of sleek black fittings complements a marble bar where chefs prepare made-to-order sushi and sashimi. The result is a genuine recreation of time-tested Japanese fare that includes old favourites such as teriyaki, yakitori and a range of curries.
Variety is the name of the game, as dining duos mix and match dishes to their hearts' content. Fans of sushi can dive in with tuna nigiri and sweet shrimp hosomaki (both £3.95), or maybe tempura prawn oishii (£4.80). Other options include garlic butter and soya mushrooms (£4.50), tofu salad (£4.40), and vegetable curry udon (£7.50).

Its small but neat and clean, you can see the chef making sushi just behind the counter in front of you. The selection is fantastic Ive [sic] never seen so many options as well as miso soup and noodle dishes... But here, its really all about the sushi. – Matcheff, TripAdvisor, Oct 2010
