A 16th century coaching house resting comfortably just outside Exeter, The Traveller’s Rest is a traditional country pub stirred with home-made British grub, real ales, and an ample beer garden for warmer days. The rustic décor and dark wooden interiors aptly complement the eatery’s menu, which is peppered with classic offerings in the shape of hearty steak pies, fish and chips, and creamy lasagnes. In addition, diners are left spoilt for choice with the ever-changing specials board and Sunday carveries, complete with all the trimmings. The pet-friendly establishment also welcomes dogs and keeps their tails wagging with doggie treats available to purchase behind the bar.
Feasts could get off to a fine start with BBQ-glazed spare ribs with a mixed salad (£4.95) or chicken liver pâté accompanied by cranberry sauce and toast (£4.95), before trotting along to the main event. Choices could be made up of the hearty 16oz rump steak, lamb chop, gammon steak, and chicken fillet grill teamed with a fried egg and a grilled tomato (£14.75), the breaded wholetail scampi with chips (£9.25), or the vegetable lasagne paired with a half garlic baguette (£8.25). Meals will be washed down with a bottle of house wine (£10) to share between two, and can be enjoyed with side dishes or desserts for an additional fee.
