Immemorial traditions and skills are passed on by Do It Outdoors, helping adventurers get back to nature with a forest full of wilderness survival courses based at the Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre. The experienced bushcrafters lead groups of all ages, and help ensure through educational programmes designed for youngsters that natural habitats will be respected and enjoyed for years to come.
Meeting by the cafe entrance to the Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre at 9.30am, bushwhackers will be led out into the woods to begin their day of learning. The programme covers all the essentials for holding out against the elements, with instruction in shelter building and fire making. The team will also demonstrate how to wield axes and saws for the collection and chopping of fire wood, as well as showing how to retrieve and construct natural cordage. A brief bushcraft trek including foraging for medicinal and edible plants will round up proceedings before the course finishes at 3pm.
