Splashing about in the Forth estuary, this certified steel passenger vessel soaks up the sights from its open top deck and glassy windows inside. The Maid of the Forth carries up to 225 passengers, navigating them through a route from South Queensferry, under the Forth Rail Bridge and past Inchcolm Island. By day a sightseeing boat, by night a party boat, evening cruises are also on offer with a licensed bar playing host to live jazz or folk bands, or a boogieing disco sail.
Cruising along at ten knots, the Maid will carry passengers along the estuary banks while the skipper helps keep eyes peeled on the return journey with a wildlife commentary. Peepers can look out for the likes of grey seals, puffins, and the occasional porpoise or dolphin, with the river landscape offering plenty of photo opportunities. The boat ride is nice and relaxing and the scenery is beautiful. I also opted to explore Inchcolm and really enjoyed my time there. It wasn't crowded at all and I had time to explore the abbey ruins, take tons of photos, and relax a bit. You can also bring food--there are picnic tables set up.
