Much like risky business, whisky business is under constant threat of boom or burst. Keep a close eye on the casks with today's Groupon: £22 for a whisky tasting tour for two with lunch at Tullibardine Distillery.
Creating highland single malts from the Ochil hills of Perthshire, Tullibardine Distillery stands on the site of a 1488 brewery whose goods were sampled by 15th century royalty. Under the expert eye of a master distiller with over 50 years' experience, the distinguished distillers turn water into whisky by blending local yeast and barley with Perthshire water. A range of tours runs the gamut from classic to connoisseur, with all levels of nose afforded the opportunity to take a rewarding sniff into the annals of a whisky barrel.
Offered seven days a week, the two hour tutored whisky tour covers the journey from mill to bottle. Groups of up to eight enthusiasts will follow the tour guide through the specialist warehouse where the oak casks are stored, to the much-anticipated tasting room. This shiny chamber will host the tutored tasting of five of Tullibardine's single malt whiskies. Afterwards, pairs of enlightened aficionados will have the chance to take in their newly-acquired knowledge during a light lunch of sandwiches, scone with jam and butter, and tea or coffee, in the distillery's café.
