Steeped in centuries of wine-making history, with a prime position on the edge of Burgundy and Beaujolais regions, Chateau Lambert’s classical windows overlook verdurous and fragrant vineyards. The clement surrounds reach out to the horizon in neat, green strips of Gamay vines, weaving a patchwork landscape interrupted only by windmills, ornate spires, and the occasional township.

The Guest House

Boasting 17th century design and sweeping views of the on-site vineyard, Chateau Lambert intoxicates guests with a taste for fine wines and gourmet dining. Rustic furnishings are mirrored by classical landscaped gardens outside, where the heated swimming pool soaks up the country sun. A hot tub and sauna also help guesets let off steam and set menus tickle taste buds in the restaurant, all earning the Chateau its 2012 Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor. The nightly set-menu dinner features specialities from the Beaujolais region, such as coq au vin or saucisson.

Groupon Recommends

After enjoying the wine tasting among the vineyards, wander across to the castle’s quaint windmill. The piece has been lovingly restored to create the same picturesque scene that locals would have admired after its construction in the 15th century. Make explorations further afield and drive the approximately 40 minutes to Cormatin and delight in the elegant frontage and grand interiors of the Chateau de Cormatin. Once home to the Marquises of Huxelles, this castle is resplendent with famous gilded decor, a drawbridge, and handsome topiary gardens.

The Stay

  • Double room with en suite facilities
  • Breakfast each morning
  • Five course set-menu dinner each night
  • Sparkling wine on arrival
  • Vineyard tour and wine tasting on one day

Top Tip

When tasting wines, remember one can measure the quality of the wine by how long its flavour remains on the tongue; 10 seconds or more is a sure-fire sign of quality stuff.
