The Hotel
Located in Cascais, less than half an hour’s drive from Lisbon, the Estoril Eden Hotel is parked near the beach of an area that has blossomed from quaint fishing village this cosmopolitan suburb. In keeping with its roots, the hotel’s kitchen serves up a mix of seafood-influenced Portuguese dishes, while it’s nautical themed Bellevue Bar sports ship wheels and a decor of sailors’ knots. Alfresco dining affairs are available in the Garden Pateo restaurant and a disco bar parties on down inside. Two heated swimming pools, indoor and outdoor, offer a choice of splashing facilities, while a fitness centre and sauna help bodies wind up and down.

Although Cascais’ coves are a short stroll from the hotel, give the Algarve a real run for its money and head out further along the Portuguese Atlantic coast, which offers vast, sweeping stretches of sand, and impressive swells for surf enthusiasts. Get sea-faring kicks with a mix of sailing, windsurfing, and kite-surfing hire from many of the water-sports centres, or stay on dry land with a day out on the award-winning golf courses nearby. Explore Cascais’ town centre and spot the many beautiful mansions built by families of nobility and gazes up at the lighthouse of The Farol de Santa Marta. For more castles, cathedrals and monument, drive for around 25 minutes into the heart of Lisbon for a day trip; but be sure to stay into the twilight hours to be engulfed by the buzzing bars and restaurants in the Barrio Alto.
