The Surf Lodge
Paddling into its second season, the newly built surf lodge is kitted out with dormitories and double rooms, while a communal area offers plenty of parking spots for surf-bums and free Wi-Fi for fingertips. Outside, the decking area takes in sunset views with barbecues sizzling up the evenings. The lodge rides in tandem with the surf school's shop and changing facilities farther down the beach, where paddle-boards and bikes are also on hand to hire.
The Lessons
Zipping up wetsuits and slipping on one of the school's easily recognisable rashees, students can head down to the beach and pick up a board before assembling on the sand. The school is fully approved by the Irish Surfing Association and some of the instructors, who are part of a well-known Irish surfing family, have surfed for the Irish team. Lessons will begin with a 10-minute land drill as instructors take newbies through the strokes, with some ocean awareness and water safety skills being floated. The next 90 minutes will be water-bound as participants get to grips with the waves. Dudes and dudettes can enjoy a two-hour lesson each day of the stay, with equipment hire included to give fins something to splash about.
The Stay
- In a shared dormitory (up to two or three other people) with shared bathroom
- Breakfast each morning
- Two-hour surfing lesson each day

Reviews
Fin McCool Surf School rides the waves with a high 4.5/5 score from TripAdvisors. Reviewers waxed lyrical about the ideal location, friendly staff and comfortable beds.
After staying here on a surf trip last year, it's now the first port of call when going north-west. The hostel itself is clean and cosy, with a good kitchen always stocked with the essentials free of charge. The beds are pretty comfy and the dorm rooms are spacious.

Beautiful views of the beach, lovely porch to sit on and watch the day go by and the rooms were clean. A spit away from the beautiful long stretch of beach.
