The Hotel

Combining traditional styles with modern day indulgences, this 16th century coaching inn revels in rustic splendour as well as a four star rating from the ‘Visit Wales’ board. The Guildhall Tavern caters to fine tastes with gastro pub-style dining and real ales in a homely environment that’s warmed with open fires. Original beams and rich oak panelling adorn elegantly furnished interiors, while a clutch of cosy rooms offer comfort and seclusion with en suite facilities and other welcome conveniences.

Groupon Recommends

Conquer historic curiosity with a trek to the nearby Denbigh Castle, the 13th century ruins of which overlook the town its scenic headland spot. Elsewhere, a chugging trip on the volunteer-run Llangollen Railway will provide views of the surrounding valley, rivers, and moorland, while the fully-resorted steam locomotives are a spectacle in themselves. When not riding the rails, stroll up Llangollen Canal to take in the country air and explore the heights of Britain’s tallest aqueduct, which is reportedly surrounded by a charming community of local otters.

The Stay

  • Standard double room
  • Full Welsh breakfast each morning with sausages, black pudding, hash browns, mushrooms, tomato and toast
  • Three ale tastings plus pint of preferred ale with a selection of bar nibbles such as nuts and olives on the first night

Transport

Train: Rhyl rail station is around 12 miles, or a 30-minute bus ride, from the hotel, with the station lying on the Crewe to Holyhead line, with connections at Crewe to Birmingham New Street and Liverpool Lime Street.
Road: Follow the M56 onto the A55 and then take Junction 27 towards Denbigh, where signposts will point the way to the town centre.

Reviews

The Guildhall Hotel received 4/5 from TripAdvisors. Visitors complimented the decor, though special mentions went to the quality of the food and the friendly atmosphere.

I must say that we found the hotel to be very good in all aspects. Our room was quirky with a lovely modern bathroom. Everything was clean and tidy. The bed and pillows we found to be very good.
