As a hotel named after an ancient goddess in a city that stills sings a glorious ode to the gods, the Hera sits between many of Athens’ magnificent relics; at the birthplace of western democracy, architecture, and science. Still watched over by the slope-top Acropolis and its Parthenon, Athens has the vibrant nature and the kind of voluptuous, sometimes bewilderingly busy, streets that should be expected from one of the world’s oldest cities. Rich with history yet beating to a modern European tune, the city balances a meze of busy tavernas with carefully restored historical sites, and tree-lined promenade linking marble temples with neoclassical museums.

The Hotel
Divinely located at the foot of the Acropolis, the Hera Hotel has sumptuously combined classical design with modern comfort to earn its four stars. At every corner the boutique hotel is designed with touches of its neoclassical past, including iron curved columns and elaborate marble floors to patter across. A roof garden restaurant provides diners with views of this ancient rock, and local and international cuisine lavishes tables in both the restaurant and cosy lobby bar.
Groupon Recommends
Ever managing to exceed even the highest of expectations, the Acropolis is Athens’ crowning glory, right in the centre of the city. Marvel at the rising Doric columns of the Parthenon, and take a peek inside the recently opened Acropolis Museum for a closer look at a multitude of Ancient Greek treasures, making the most of the transparent floors to view the archaeological excavations beneath. Other must-see sites include the Agora, ruins of the city’s ancient marketplace, and the Benaki Museum, crammed with treasures of Islamic art and topped with a rooftop cafe. Alternatively, ventures of a more modern nature can be found in the upmarket boutiques, cafes, and galleries of the Kolonaki district.
The Stay

Top Tip
If requiring a break from the bustle by the sea, avoid the heaving city centre beaches of Pireaus and Faliron and take a drive out of Athens to the much more peaceful coves of Vouliagmeni.
Reviews
TripAdvisors award Hera a favourable 4/5 stars. While some guests found room size modest, reviewers praise the proximity to attractions and the metro, and the helpful personnel.
The Hera was a very nice and affordable hotel. Location within walking distance to the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum and great dining options. Breakfast was nice. Staff was very helpful in giving us directions and arranging for taxis and other services. Great experience!

It is a small hotel, but the location is great. From the restaurant on top of the hotel you have a nice view on the Akropolis [sic] and the metro is on walking distance to the hotel. The people in the hotel are very friendly. For sure, we will come back to this hotel when being in Athens next time.
