The Hotel
Poised by the banks of Lake Como, the 19th century Grand Hotel Britannia Excelsior surveys the rafts of passenger ferries floating below. The hotel's early-20th century restaurant is decorated in baroque style, while the glamour extends to the hotel’s lavish en-suite bedrooms. Guests can make the most of the outdoor swimming pool, taking in picturesque lakeside views and finishing up with a cocktail on the spacious outdoor terrace.

Further afield, amid winding olive groves and woods on the western edge of the lake, The Sacro Monte di Ossuccio attracts cultural sightseers with its 15 baroque-inspired chapels leading up to the famous sanctuary.

Highlights included its convenient location for exploring the Italian lakes and mountains, its beautiful views, warm hospitality and varied choice for food and drink.
From the front of the hotel the views across Lake Como towards Bellagio are lovely. The hotel is well situated for exploring the area on your own. There is a ferry terminal and a bus stop virtually opposite. The fares are modest and the services prompt.
