The Hotel
Fringed by the shores of a pebble beach, the four star Enotel Baia keeps guests on a quiet southerly spot with far-reaching views and plentiful facilities. There is an indoor pool and fitness room for working up appetites, while a restaurant and bar fulfil a wealth of dining needs. Those after something a little fancier, or perhaps something containing an umbrella, can make their way to the Enotel Baia cocktail bar which serves a multi-hued selection of refreshing beverages.

If you prefer to be a little more firm-footed in your leisure time, the scenic golf courses of Santo de Serra and the Palheiro Golf Club may be more your bag. The course is about 30 minutes' drive along the coast and surveys the bay of Funchal as well as its impressive cityscape. This cosmopolitan capital offers a vibrant mix of nature-led activities such as whale-watching, with more urban adventures to be taken in the city's clubs, many of which stay open until 7am.

The hotel was lovely, nestled in a valley of a small bay between two mountains. Room was spacious, clean and lovely, with balcony overlooking the sea.
