Well placed to enjoy the city's mix of artsy atmosphere and rich coastal history, Les Terrasses d'Essaouira is a stroll away from the main square and the port. Glittering boxes of fresh fish are laid out on the docks each morning, while the city's ramparts remain unyielding in the turbulent wash of the Atlantic surf. From the spice souks and art markets to roof terraces and tall tumblers of sweet mint tea, the city cultivates a laid-back attitude to coastal life.

Rooms branch off a central atrium and courtyard, offering cool high-ceilinged respite from the heat outside.

Groupon Recommends

Chosen as the setting for the opening scenes of Orson Welles' Othello, Essaouira ramparts offer a dramatic overview of the port, the ocean, and the mesh of streets curling out through the medina. The cooking class brings a chance to descend into the market with a guide, and visitors may wish to divert to the spice souk to find spices and herbs for anything from treating baldness to seasoning a fish tagine. Visitors looking for an insight into the cultural history can head to the Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdullah Museum, with its small but valuable collection that includes musical instruments and some of the intricately hand-woven carpets of the region.

  • Superior double room with large bed, en suite bathroom, and dressing gowns

Reviews

Les Terrasses d'Essaouira received a dreamy 4.5/5 from TripAdvisors. Reviewers were keen to praise the friendly staff and the location, though special mentions went to the hotel’s décor.

Friendly and helpful staff with delightful breakfast provided. The rooms and lounge/eating areas were imaginatively and attractively decorated. The rooftop terrace was great for relaxing in the sun.
Geoff B, TripAdvisor, Mar 2012

We had our breakfast in the library room and it was a massive array of local delicacies - we couldn't finish it all. I would definitely stay here again. Perfect location (easy to find) and would recommend it to all.
