The Hotel

Matching the placid splendour of the neighbouring loch, this former coaching inn offers an abundance of homely delights in a scenic and traditional setting. The on-site restaurant turns out a menu of authentic Scottish favourites, and uses local produce in its menus and offers views over the water from its windows. Equally epicurean treats abound in the Captain’s Bar, where more than 30 Highland whiskies stack up against a spread of lagers, ales, and wines. The hotel welcomes guests with an array of lodges, apartments, and suites, while the surroundings provide similar variation with golf courses, fishing rivers, and mountain biking all available within a brisk stroll.

Groupon Recommends

Venture to the historic seaport of Oban, where scenic vistas and a Gulf Stream climate provide a handsome backdrop to tastings of the famous local malt scotches. Similarly tasteful experiences may be had at Castle Toward, where the 15th century ruins of the Clan Lamont fortification are juxtaposed against the proud towers of a sprawling country mansion. If not hooked on history, cast off for a spot of fishing in the loch, populated throughout its 27 miles of fresh water by bountiful stocks of perch, roach, and pike.

Reviews

The Portsonachan Hotel was awarded 3/5 by TripAdvisors. While there were mixed opinions on the service and décor, many guests complimented the food and the hotel’s loch-side location.

The staff we found to be very friendly and helpful. The food was very nice and came hot and freshly prepared. The hotel lounge had a lovely atmosphere with the real log fire and felt very comfortable.
Annemarie W, TripAdvisor, Mar 2012
