A county of sweeping flatlands and beautiful timber-framed villages, Suffolk’s Sunrise Coast boasts a sleepy medieval façade and a bustling history in the wool trade. The increasingly sea-nibbled coast has retained a clutch of seaside towns with deep histories reaching back to the Angles of the 5th century and flourishing resorts favoured by those looking to escape from the city.

Looming out of the marshy mists rolling in from the North Sea, the Suffolk Heritage Coast is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, an agricultural patchwork interspersed with thriving nature reserves. The rare birdlife is some of the best in the country, from an avocet wading spindly-legged through still rippling pools to the thrill of a nightingale singing in the dusk.
Stay in Saxmundham with today's Groupon: £145 for a two night stay for two, with a bottle of Prosecco on arrival and breakfast daily at The Bell Hotel.

The Hotel
On the site of an inn for centuries, The Bell Hotel has ten individually decorated rooms complete with antique furnishings and Georgian windows, through which guests can look out over the pretty town and countryside beyond. Each room is equipped with flat screen TV and iPod dock, free wi-fi internet access, and fine cotton linens.
Downstairs, the Butterflies restaurant serves locally sourced and seasonal produce in a softly lit and elegant dining room, and for a more casual atmosphere, guests can stretch out in the parlour or the Suffolk Punch Bar for quick bite to eat. The Bell also arranges a series of wine and local food tastings throughout the year, celebrating the rich offerings of a thriving agricultural economy.

Groupon Recommends
Exploring the delights of the Stour Valley and the Suffolk Heritage Coast can lead through villages that appear almost unchanged since the Middle Ages, with timber framed houses leaning over winding streets and clustered around pretty parish churches. The coastal town of Southwold is close by, with beach-hut lined sands, curiosity-filled Victorian pier, and the famed Adnam’s brewery making it a chic yet quintessentially English resort town.
Framlington, a few miles inland from Saxmundham, boasts a medieval castle on the site of a much earlier motte and bailey structure, as well as a host of local shops and pubs. The blond grasses and marshes of Minsmere Nature Reserve are a short drive away, stretching for miles and brought alive with the calls of rare birds, from the booming of bitterns to the pings of bearded tits. Guests who book for October might also get to see the red deer rut in the golden breath-misted light of an autumn sunset.
Local Amenities
Saxmundham has plenty of little shops, pubs and restaurants, and being at the heart of the Suffolk Heritage coastal region makes it a popular base for visitors planning wider explorations.

Reviews
Users on TripAdvisor awarded The Bell Hotel a king-sized 4.5/5 stars, while reviews on Booking.com were also positive. Former guests praised the charming atmosphere and welcoming staff, finding it ideal for a country getaway.
This hotel makes a great base for visiting the Suffolk coast - Southwold and Dunwich Heath are short drive away. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. The rooms have been recently decorated and were very homely and full of character. The restaurant is excellent, the bar is well stocked with local beers such as Adnams. There is a comfortable lounge, with books, games, etc. if you want a quiet read. Highly recommended.
