Rooted amid the manicured greenery of a parkland estate, Carberry Tower provides travellers with a lofty refuge on the fringes of Edinburgh’s scattered city limits. The Caledonian capital is draped across valleys and hills, belying a wealth of secrets between its motley assembly of tenements, backstreets, and cobbled avenues. Originally the basin of the drained Nor Loch, the lush parade of Princes Street Gardens splits the city’s heart into the New and Old Towns, affording Edinburgh a twofold appeal. New Town is a splendid network of townhouses and high end boutiques, while Old Town plunges visitors into a scramble of markets, bookshops, and lively alehouse sing-songs.
