The Hotel
The whitewashed facades and terracotta roofs of Chryssana Beach Hotel lie in an oasis of green-lit gardens just 20 metres from the sea. As well as sitting on the beach of Kolymvari, the hotel boasts a large fresh water pool with a bar alongside for simultaneous drink-sipping and foot dipping. Cradled by green slopes, the Moni Gonia monastery was founded in the ninth century, rebuilt with Venetian influence in the 17th century, and now contains a treasure trove of Byzantine artefacts. With 30 minutes' drive, guests can reach Chaniá, the capital of the region, which features a beautiful Venetian-style harbour with waterfront restaurants and Ottoman baths.
