The Festival
Scattered across a clutch of venues and stages, this eclectic event offers an international line-up, accompanied by late-night parties and the cosmopolitan razzamatazz of a major city. The bank holiday knees up sees popular acts such as Gossip and Friendly Fires take turns alongside sets from international DJs and producers such as Simian Mobile Disco, plus many celebrated Spanish favourites. Between bands there are daily cultural conferences to be sat in on at the lecture theatre, and an on-site art galleries exhibit a stunning variety of contemporary works. Mediterranean afternoons are offset by a refreshing array of bars serving beers, cocktails, and other chilled treats, and the evening draws in with the sounds of more acts, from post-rock monoliths Mogwai, to Brit Pop’s biggest reformers, Pulp.

Local Area
Before the musical acts head to the Plaza de las Flores for a tasteful experience with a mouthwatering assortment of tapas dishes at some of the city’s most reputable eateries and taverns. Take further time to venture beyond the festival’s vibrant bounds, as Murcia’s streets sparkle with more sedate treasures such as its 14th century Cathedral, which blends Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance styles. If artistic appetites are already whetted, indulge the inner-aesthete further and stop by at the Salzillo Museum, where a comprehensive collection celebrates the life and works of the beloved Spanish sculptor.
