The Lodge

Ensconced in the exotic wilderness of the Mpumalanga Province, this four star game lodge is a stomping ground for holidaymakers and zebra alike. Simultaneously cosy and wild, the thatched roof of the Royal Kruger Lodge keeps guests just metres away from the giraffe and buffalo that occasionally graze on the grass outside. A thatched lapa seating area overlooks an outdoor pool flanked by trees and an animal drinking hole, while a little further afield, the lions from the Lionspruit nature reserve make their presence known by roar. Adventurers who recline on poolside loungers or take a cooling dip are afforded the rare opportunity of sharing drinks with four-legged friends from the heart of the bush.

The Stay

Staying in one of the en suite lodges with twin or double beds, guests can settle into homely, rustic interiors and enjoy the fruit bowl and beverage facilities that await. An outdoor shower facility is available to let guests feel in touch with nature, before breakfast outside in the lapa and a light lunch are rounded off each day by dinner in the starlit Boma. This traditional African enclosure sees guests tucking into four courses under the stars of the bush night sky, with the sounds of the bush setting the background music. Enamoured guests can extend their stay with the offer of taking an extra two nights in the bush for the usual price of one.

The Safari

Setting off in an open safari vehicle, guests will embark upon the Crocodile River sundowner drive. This outing at sunset will acquaint pairs with the elephants frequently seen at sunset as well as the hippos and crocodiles that traverse the river in the last sunbeams of the day. The bush orientation walk allows visitors to take to the bush by foot, proffering closer encounters with the giraffe, monkeys, warthogs, and mongoose that stalk the bush's green tapestry. Another fantastical daytime experience arrives in the form of the Kruger game drive. Here lies the best opportunity for spotting some of the province's most revered beasts, such as the lion, leopard and rhino, all sharing your thrilling path.

My boyfriend and I had [sic] extremely wonderful time at the lodge! We were treated like royalty and felt very special. We got to experience a truly ‘wild’ experience and got to see many game! We will definitely be back to experience more of what this lodge has to offer!

With awesome staff, great food and wonderful nature all around you can't go wrong with Royal Kruger Lodge. We needed a calm, serene weekend in the Bushveld with some game viewing and time-out from the hustle of (Johannesburg) and that's exactly what we got. Loved the tame Zebra and almost tame warthog's [sic] in Marloth Park and truly enjoyed the sundowners at the Crocodile River.
