The Villa
Drying off water adventurers and dusting off climbers, the mountain base is a brightly coloured haven with a communal lounge and east-facing dining terrace are east facing to catch the sunrise. Between boot camps guests can while away the hours with a selection of novels and comfy chairs to hand for those wanting to skip siestas. The garden also boasts some sun loungers and an outdoor pool to relax in after a work-out, and fresh Mediterranean flavours waft from the kitchen.
The Stay
Run by a mix of ex-military and physical trainers, the ‘1000 Mile Journey’ Boot Camp is a devised mix of comprehensive fitness and exercise classes as well as adventure activities to test and reward you, all run outdoors. Fanatics will begin their journey with an objective briefing, and pedometers will be used to track their fitness levels throughout the five days. The programme doesn’t focus on fad foods, so instead find breakfasts, lunches, and dinners that use local Mediterranean ingredients to help boost energy levels. Rest up in the evenings in a swinging hammock beside the pool and sleep in en suite twin rooms with ceiling fans and tiled floors to keep things cool.
The Activities
The great outdoors plays host to the five day programme, with yoga, Nordic walking and mountain biking among the staple exercise plans. Once the fitness assessment is out of the way, activities may begin with circuit training and team games but build up towards hill or beach running, depending on ability and weather. Nine of these sessions take place during the week, beginning at breakfast time and lasting until around 5pm. For a rush of adrenaline, six adventure sessions will give opportunities to canoe through the cliffs and rapids as well as try some abseiling, coastering and via ferrata.
