Preserving the legacies and heritage of the Far East, the Museum of East Asian Art plays devoted homage to the wonders of China, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia. This cultural centre rests within the confines of a beautifully restored Georgian house located a few short metres from The Circus, and is home to thousands of artefacts, with some dating back as far as c.5000 BC.

Those looking to elucidate their minds about the ancient East can enjoy a stroll around this dedicated museum, perhaps paying visit to the ‘Memoires of Tomorrow’ exhibition, a selection of Chinese paintings by Yinjie Sun. Visitors with an eye for artefacts may also opt to visit ‘Beauty of Form and Colour’, a display of Song Dynasty ceramics from 960-1279. There are also events aplenty to get involved in, including the self-guided Ceramic Trail as part of July’s Archaeology Festival. Kids can also get in on the action with the ‘Fun Japan’ workshop in September, as little ones busy their hands making teru teru bozu (Japanese weather dolls), and traditional Samurai hats. Choose from the following options for museum entry:

£5 for two people (50% off)

£9 for four people (55% off)

£13 for six people (57% off)

£17 for eight people (58% off)
