The Hotel
With a large sunny garden, exposed beams in the dining area, and a clutch of four individually designed rooms, this auberge offers an upbeat take on the traditional inn. The restaurant serves a collection of sturdy British classics alongside some more exotic favourites, from home-made fish pies and pork belly to lemongrass prawns and falafel veggie burgers hot from the grill.
The Stay
Ducking in from the bright spring of a coastal afternoon, guests can drop their bags in the room before exploring the Jurassic coast nearby. Each of the en suite bedrooms places plush white linen against soft white walls and delicately patterned curtains, and hold mod cons of TVs, hairdryers, iPod docking stations and Wi-Fi. Head to the Weymouth Museum for a rambunctious look at the town's smuggling history, or walk around Nothe Fort for a peek at the 19th century defences studded with cannons and other weaponry. The dramatic coastline is rich in birdlife, and whole days can be spent wandering the chalky, gorse-lined coastal pathways.
Transport
Roads: The hotel lies at the southern tip of the A354, which connects with the A35 towards Bournemouth and the M3.
Trains: The hotel is a short bus ride from Weymouth rail station, with regular services to Southampton Central and much of the UK rail network.

Abbotsbury is located 14km west of Weymouth and offers plenty for wildlife spotters, including a nesting colony of over 600 mute swans.
