Lapland

The Hotel
Contrasting wintry surrounds with a fresh pine decor and a host of homely comforts, Arctic Star Hotel offers a snug retreat from Lapland’s bewitching wilds. This traditional lodge furnishes its 31 rooms with a warmly understated style, while its windows look out on to a nearby lake and the hushed flow of the Muonio River. Aromas of authentic Scandanavian delicacies fill the air in the on-site restaurant, where robust meals are handsomely coupled with a range of spirits, wines, and beers from the well-stocked bar.
The Excursions
Lapland’s ethereal splendour can be explored first-hand by those opting to incorporate this sleigh-full of activities into the standard stay. The journey can begin with a snowmobile ride into the wildnerness, where adventurers will attempt to seek out the elusive majesty of the famous Northern Lights. Further wonders may be found on a rambling hike through frost-dusted forests, before a wildly exhilarating husky safari led by a lively pack of dogs and an experienced sled team. A visit to the local reindeer camp will allow hot-shots to try their hands at lassoing and herding before they sit back for a festive sleigh ride through the sweeping countryside. Thrill-seekers can exercise their skiing skills as they brave the cross-country trails, accompanied by an expert guide. The Sámi Museum will clue up travellers on the lifestyles and heritage of the indigenous Laplanders, and couples its collection of artefacts and craftworks with a stunningly carved ice castle featuring ornately sculpted rooms.
